About Me

As a child, there was that day my favorite cartoon characters first touched my heart. A little later thereafter, I found out that I could create cartoons for a living, and I have been working towards this dream ever since.

Hi everyone! I am a young animator and storyboard artist currently studying at CSULB. I enjoy bringing characters to life through animation and storytelling.

But my story doesn't start here. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was constantly presented with challenges along the way, but I did not allow them to stagnate my growth. In fifth grade, the heartfelt kindness of my favorite Disney characters inspired me to embark on my lifelong journey in animation.

To this day, my favorite aspect of animation is the diverse array of unique characters, each with their quirky personality and story. My main inspirations were Mickey Mouse and his pals, Jiminy Cricket, and Peter Pan. Even today, these characters continue to motivate me through happiness and laughter.

Unlike many animators in my generation, I was inspired by the more traditionally animated films, specifically the classic Disney features and cartoons from the Golden and Silver Ages. My favorites are The Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia (1940), Pinocchio (1940), Peter Pan (1953), and the classic Mickey Mouse cartoons and Christmas movies. Some of my biggest inspirations are Don Bluth, John Pomeroy, and most importantly, Walt Disney himself. One of my goals is to keep traditional animation alive while continuing to learn more about the craft and different kinds of animation to serve others.

Although my dream is something I came up with on my own, it's not the same without the encouragement and love I am able to provide to all of you. If you are ever struggling or feeling down, just know that I have experienced some of the same feelings and will always be here to help motivate and inspire you. How can I help you find your voice and reach for the stars?

Best wishes,

Jonathan T. Yip
